Copper intaglio plate being pulled through a printing press, ink rising into paper fibers in extreme macro detail
Est. 2009 · Intaglio & Relief Editions

The mark the
press leaves
behind.

Original intaglio editions pulled in a single studio in Brooklyn. Each print carries the pressure of the plate, the grain of the paper, the moment of its making.

"The acid bite in these plates has a geological patience — each mark is a decision that cannot be undone. That irreversibility is the work's power."

"Working in complete isolation, the press becomes the only conversation partner. These editions carry that silence — you can feel it in the ink weight."

"The series from this year's ISP cohort redefines what pressure can mean in contemporary printmaking. Imprint's contribution is the anchor."

Process Documentation

Watching it
being made.

The process is the argument. Collectors who watch the making understand the edition limit — and why it exists.

Macro close-up of acid biting into a copper etching plate, creating deep grooves in the metal surface in an artist studio
Acid Bite

20–45 min

Acid immersion per pass

Ferric chloride cuts at 45° into copper. The depth of the bite determines the ink load — and the darkness of the final mark.

Artist hands pressing and wiping etching ink across a copper plate with a tarlatan cloth, removing surface ink while filling the etched grooves
Hand Inking

Stiff oil-based ink, forced into every groove by hand. Then wiped back to the surface — only the cuts hold.

Intaglio printing press rollers turning over a copper plate and dampened paper, the mechanical process of transferring ink to paper
The Pull

4,000 PSI

Press pressure

4,000 PSI. Dampened Hahnemühle paper pressed into the inked plate by steel rollers. One pass. Irreversible.

The Proof

≤ 20

Editions per plate

The first print off a new state. Examined under a loupe. Numbered in pencil. Either signed or destroyed.
